It’s time again, for you, tastemaker/cool kid/person of impeccable tastes, to decide what is truly the best Boston has to offer, from vintage boutiques to vegan restaurants.
Our staff sacrificed hours of sleep (and plenty of respect for each other) composing a list of what we thought were the most deserving local businesses, and now it’s up to you to decide who’ll be taking top honors at our Dig This Awards Gala on November 9th. We leave anybody out? Probably JPat’s fault. Write ‘em on in!

Re: Arts & Film category
There seems to be some confusion between “theatres” “theatre companies” “venues” and “art” going on here…i.e., you list A.R.T. as “highbrow art,” and then your “Theatre/Large” category includes only venues, while “Theatre/Medium-Small” inclues both the Lyric and the Huntington Theatre, which are companies, along with two venues (unless the “Huntington Theatre” is a venue also, which it’s not, because there’s no building by that name, and if you’re referring to the BU Theatre on Huntington Ave, wouldn’t that count as a Large theatre?)
Ah the old Theater/Theatre situation strikes again! We’ll look at it ….
dammit, i want a nonprofit category so i can stuff the virtual (ballot) box and get a fancy sign for SLF
It’s not even the er/re debate — I think that “theatre” and “venue” are pretty clear, but within each category, there’s mixed options.
But hey, at least the Brendan Behan pub got its due in the “Neighborhood Spots” section. I’ll give you that (and then go have a beer)!
Good points Thom… trust me there were many more debates and I don’t image we made the right decisions for all of them… so the feedback is appreciated!
I think the Orpheum is an awesome place to see a show… many high named acts got their start there – !

In regards to the “Gym” category:
When you say “CrossFit,” which CrossFit gym are you referring to? There are a lot of gyms that offer CrossFit workouts in Boston, but they’re all different operations offering different services and owned/run by different people; they’re not part of a chain. CrossFit is like pilates; it’s a method that you need certification in to teach, but all the places that teach it are independent of each other.
Tying in to what Joe said above, is there anything to keep someone from “stuffing the box” for themselves? (that’s right, I said stuffing the box) But seriously, there are those out there shitty enough to do that. Just asking.

Joe G. should just get an award by default, but check out how many awesome SLF businesses are nominated. That’s pretty chest puffing worthy.

Would you ever consider a catogory for best prepared/take home food? Or best farm food? Their is a great variety of food out there, and quality rivals any restaurant. What do you think?
