Artist Tak Toyoshima‘s Asian Americana is a series of paintings that he’s put together as a transposition of Asian culture onto famous American Icons such as Neil Armstrong, Abraham Lincoln, and even Malcolm X.
Tak is best known for his comic Secret Asian Man, which appears weekly in Dig Boston as well as online. I’ve known Tak for over a decade, but never actually got to sit down with him and discuss his work outside of being the Dig‘s Creative Director. We caught up with Tak at his event at Zuzu earlier this month to speak with his fans and explore his world of Asian American icons. If you haven’t caught the series, it runs until the end of this month at Zuzu. The paintings are also for sale and can be purchased by getting in touch Tak via his blog.

Nice job…but I was waiting to see U-2….oh, wait, I did see you too.
Tak is a talented guy…I see a second interview in store. And a big run on the Tak doll.
Great interview. Great work Tak. Craig is going to use some of the footage for his ‘How To Pick Up Asian Chicks’ documentary. Sponsored by Narragansett.
I don’t know, I don’t think Asian ladies take to me too well. But Asian is a big spectrum to contend with, so I guess I’ll have to narrow it down to Japanese women.
