Planning on doing the tired, “I’m pregnant, it’s yours” or “Pack your shit, we’ve been evicted” prank on April Fools’ Day? Well here’s something you can do on April 1st that doesn’t give your roommate a reason to poison your mac and cheese and could actually make a statement.
Bike co-op CommonWheels will be converting two parking spaces on Harvard Ave., at the corner of Harvard and Brighton Ave. into public parks for Park(ing) Day from noon-5pm. (Yes, right outside Blanchard’s…like you needed another reason to stock up on cheap beer…or boxed wine. Your choice.)
The event is meant to show how much more than just landing your gas-guzzler can be done in the small area of two parking spaces. It’s part of a worldwide event that usually occurs in early September, but CommonWheels ain’t just usual.
It’ll be bike themed with helmet-decorating contests, free DIY bike repair and an outdoor “café” with tables and chairs.
(Would you prefer your lunch with a side of Franzia?) Ok, enough booze parentheses.
But seriously, Park(ing) Day on its own sounds pretty intriguing, and the fact that CommonWheels is working with the delicious Refuge Café doesn’t hurt either.
Oh yeah, I forgot. They’ll be giving out free bikes to the first 50 folks who show up.
