Justin P. Drew is a local comedian who follows the Funny Fat Guys precedent set by dudes like Chris Farley and John Belushi. Like them, he’s got great timing and boundless wit. Unlike them, he’s still alive, and has no plans to die anytime soon. He’ll be at the Comedy Studio July 12.
What’s your favorite place in Boston to perform?
The Comedy Studio is my favorite club in Boston, probably the most consistently filled room in the city. Also ImprovBoston has been very good to me. I’ve been naked on their stage dozens of times. The fact that it happened even once is crazy.
Who’s the funniest person in the lineup for this show?
I’m the least funny person on that entire lineup, and I’m hilarious. That’s how funny this lineup is.
It’s like the Avengers of people that don’t get laid often.
What’s the best prank you ever pulled?
I’m not much into pranks, but I love making “shame bets.” That’s when the wager of a bet is a public shaming. So far in 2013 I’m two-for-two with shame bets. Earlier this year, my comic friend Jere Pilapil made a bet with me about which Emile Hirsch movie came out first: Into The Wild or Speed Racer. Winner got to write a five-minute set for the loser. I said Into The Wild and won. Because of that, now there’s a video online of Jere warning all the ladies at a show that he’s “on a clam hunt” and singing “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” in the first person.
And then this week my friend Dan lost a shame bet to me about the outro of Kanye West‘s new song “Send It Up.” (He thought Kid Cudi sang it, I thought it was anyone else) and now his Facebook profile picture is Dave Matthews for a week. Ever since he lost the bet I’ve been posting Dave Matthews Band videos on his wall.
I really love to just make someone regret a friendship.
