Maybe you can buy happiness by the bottle after all.
Raise your bottles of craft beer and clink your glasses of fine wine, for it is a day of celebration.
American Provisions, a farm-to-table specialty store in Southie, now carries specially selected craft beers and wines to accompany their cheeses, charcuterie, and other delectable delicacies.
The rotating selection will feature mainly local and domestic beers, said Erin McIver, brand manager and produce buyer for American Provisions. The lineup includes varieties from Slumbrew, Brewmaster Jack, and High & Mighty, among many more.
Mike Hanson, the beer and local cheese buyer, said he finds beers for the shop just by drinking new things.
“I go to the bar and I’m like, ‘Oh, I haven’t heard of that one, so let’s try that,” he said. “It’s mostly just trial and error.”
As for the grapey goodness, wine buyer Joe Quintero said they focus on finding well-known wines and then buying from smaller vineyards in the same region that may not otherwise have the chance to export their product.
They are also trying to get their customers more involved with their wine purchases using an app called Vivino, which gives users access to information on the wine they’re drinking just by scanning the label, Quintero said.
“We want wine to be as unintimidating as possible,” he said.
The many delicious beverages American Provisions now has to offer add a flavorful new depth to the shop’s commitment to local and artisanal products—and the people who produce them.
Part of the store’s mission is to tell the story of the food they sell and to show the interconnections forged between people by what they eat, McIver said.
“We want to bring people to the table,” she said. “And the best way to do that is to feed them.”
