Parks and Rec nerds rejoice! Everyone’s favorite neurotic mid-level bureaucrat has made the city of Somerville prime-time famous…sort of.
when he spotted the Somerville City budget being used as a prop by character Leslie Knope!
The staffer zoomed in and confirmed that city-council candidate Knope, played by Amy Poehler (a Burlington, Mass. native) is indeed holding up page 18 of the Somerville City budget. This guy must be the world champ of Where’s Waldo? I can have only admiration for this man’s unyielding dedication to his city, reminiscent of Knope’s own meticulous and overzealous
obsession with dedication to the progress of her quaint (and fictional) town, Pawnee, Indiana.
While many Facebook users commented, shared, and “liked” Somerville’s post, The City of Somerville’s Facebook handler speculated on why this majestic honor was granted: “So, if you Google ‘municipal budget,’ Somerville is the first city with a link to its budget doc. Could this be why we were chosen or was page 18 just irresistible? More important, it feels very ‘Parks & Rec’ to be excited about seeing your City budget on ‘Parks & Rec’.”
Ain’t it the truth, Somerville.
