ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER | NEVER
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is the second collaboration between Tim Burton and Kazakh-born Timur Bekmambetov, after the imaginative, but disastrous, 9. Will Vampire Hunter be a campy celebration of two artists playing to their strengths, or will it be two guys making inside jokes you don’t understand? [R | Wide Release, Fri 6.22.12]
5 BROKEN CAMERAS | NEVER

Between the Israeli settlements and Palestinian resistance, it can be pretty tempting to resort to a plague-on-both-your-houses view. Which is why 5 Broken Cameras is such a relief, with a non-extremist Palestinian family committed to nonviolent resistance to Israeli settlements in Bil’in, West Bank. Thoughtful and honest, these are regular people in the most toxic environment in the world, showing what’s at stake. [NR | Kendall Square Cinema, Fri 6.22.12]
YOUR SISTER’S SISTER | NEVER
With romantic comedies being driven into the ground, the latest trend is to remain familiar while subverting conventions and letting the audience know that you’re aware of the contrivances. Your Sister’s Sister isn’t much like Friends with Benefits or Crazy Stupid Love, but it is a funny, clever romance that you won’t be absolutely mortified by on date night. [R | Coolidge Corner Theatre, Fri 6.22.12]
PAYBACK | NEVER

Based on Margaret Atwood’s bestselling book Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth, this documentary asks “how does BP pay back what it did to the Gulf?” Jennifer Baichwal’s documentary is thought-provoking. The worst you can say about it is that it’s at times scatterbrained, but you can hardly hold that against a movie with so much to say. [NR | Museum of Fine Arts, Fri 6.22.12]
