I didn’t judge at the Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble last night, and I’m GLAD – I would’ve held up everyone trying to make a decision, as Spirit Kid, Sidewalk Driver, Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling and Mellow Bravo all returned to TT the Bear’s with some serious swagger for the semifinals.
MOVING ON TO THE FINALS: SPIRIT KID!
I don’t want to say that I was surprised by this, but I was, slightly — and elated — for one of the most readily likeable bands in Boston at the moment. Heading into the venue last night, my money was on Mellow Bravo or Sidewalk Driver, and again, it’s not from lack of loving Emeen to pieces, along with the rest of the SK camp. Keith CROWD SURFED and Tad shot off GLITTER CANNONS for chrissakes, and Sophia from Do Not Forsake Me? She is a force to be reckoned with, and it’s not just because she’s at her drum kit barefoot. (For whatever reason, I find this to be especially hardcore.)
TONIGHT: SECOND WILD, SECOND VICTOR? OR WHAT?
After Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents pulled out of the Rumble earlier this week, Oldjack will be stepping into that slot for tonight’s showdown against John Powhida International Airport, Black Thai and Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys. Given the underdog-esque nature of their return, I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys move on after tonight. (Especially if Mr. Nicklin whips out the Wookie coat. Y’all know what I’m talking about.) This is going to be another one of those excrutiangly difficult calls, though, as each of the four playing tonight absolutely deserve to be there, move on and undoubtedly kick ass and take names.
ALSO: From the Dig camp, I just want to say that all 24 bands have blown us away so far and that each night at the Rumble has been one fantastic party that we’re thrilled to be a part of. I can’t make it to the Rumble tonight — and I’m genuinely bummed about it — so I’ll see you at the final, guys. BREAK LEGS!
