The planets must in retrograde because this week has seemed particularly frantic and unsettling. Past experience has proved that in times such as these, one must lose the body to calm the mind; therefore a generous dose of drum and bass is in order. To get my fix, I head to Phoenix Landing‘s weekly drum and bass night, Elements, which is known for its residents, Crook and Lenore, heavy bass and jungle, and its penchant for making the sweat flow mercilessly. This evening, Elements will be giving Cambridge a generous dose of local d&b trio, The Statesmen. There goes the neighborhood.
Comprised of DJS and producers, Assembler (David Fox), Furious Styles (Shawn Conte) and Hallifax (Justin Crosby), this dynamic crew has been shaking asses and scrambling feet on all sides of the Charles. These boys spin their drum and bass as wild or as funky as they choose, layering their sound with a hint of darkness and a lot of soul. Either way they make it, you can be sure your bones are going to rattle.
U-Turn-The Statesmen
Upon this track’s drop in 2010, “U-Turn”, released on Variant Audio hit the top 10 on Trackitdown for D&B. This track has an in your face appeal that evokes a strange nostalgia while making it impossible to stop that full body shudder. You can find this track in the mix (around 6:48) where Assembler and Furious Styles kick ass (and take names) for one of Temporal Fusion‘s podcasts.
