What terms have been as grossly abused in music circles as “emo” and “core?” “Emo” has come to mean a specific type of heart-on-Hot-Topic-sleeve music, far from its roots as short for “emotional.” The “-core” suffix, over time, made it to the end of any genre with a bit of screaming. All this makes defining emocore pros Planes Mistaken for Stars (up in Great Scott tonight) hard. Of or relating to emotions? Check? Just a bit of screaming? No sir. Heck, they should call it earbleedcore. ‘Cause our ears are bleeding.
