GENRE | KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED
VERDICT | YOU COULD GET MUGGED DOWN HERE
LABEL | BRAINFEEDER
RELEASE | 3.19.12
Just keep moving, you tell yourself, as you descend to the concrete canal walkway and the sun continues its inevitable decline. You can hear water dripping off the steel supports as you walk under one of the city’s many unadorned bridges; not even graffiti artists hang out down here. A sound that could either be a rat walking over a newspaper, or a person hiding in the shadows. Then the lights hit you in the face.
Given Martyn’s history, in particular the excellent Ghost People, it should be no surprise that Hello Darkness came out sounding more than a little sinister.
The title track in particular, with its low end groove and disorienting drum track, sounds like a late-night bike-ride through the bad part of town. The remixes are arguably even more exciting, particularly L-Vis 1990 and Bok Bok scattering his sounds into wide open groove that leaves little to hold on to.
As the electronic world searches for what happens after dubstep, Martyn remains an artist to watch.

Loved this EP! I played the Bauplan remix on my Boston Free Radio show a few weeks ago: http://editsradio.org/archives/2012-08-20.html
