IN THE MIX: DAMIAN LAZARUS

[Disclaimer: I don't believe the world will end on the 21st.
I bought a plane ticket for the 22nd.]

Welcome to week two in the ongoing quest to score your ever climactic, Mayan ending. Last week, we met with Boys Noize who showed us the unabashed energy of the Germans, leaving us with a resounding elixir capable of drowning out the loudest of chatter. Today we transition to an artist who, like his two home cities, London and LA, embraces the dichotomy of dark and light respectively, channeling the Mayan spirit in his music (see mix below).

Yes, Damian Lazarus will guide you to the end and then, in true biblical fashion, resurrect your body and spirt.

I have the honor of covering a wide range of DJs and producers under this big “electronic” umbrella, and naturally, some artists fit more within my own personal taste than others. Lazarus is one of those artists. To all those who operate under the belief that electronic music has to be aggressive and harsh, I challenge you with this mix.

There is a raw, visceral quality that Lazarus produces that cannot be mimicked or reproduced, though I’ve heard a few brave try. It’s the sound of living truth and dying hope and mysteries rooted deep within a shared consciousness. It is a toast for all who are paying attention and a rebellion for those who need it most. I am paying attention and I need a rebellion most of all. To all those on my side, join Damian Lazarus tonight for a resurgence in faith and resurrection before the great fall.
