GENRE | ELECTRIC HAZE
VERDICT | LAY IN A FIELD
LABEL | INFECTIOUS MUSIC
RELEASE | 9.17.13
The influence of their time in the countryside is clear, because the whole album feels like it was written while lying in the grass.
Instrumental album opener “Scream Rave” melts everything around the listener and brings us into the dream cave. The album has a solid alternative rock core with a heavy coating of psychedelic electronic.
It’s kind of like if Pixies and MGMT had a baby that was fed a steady diet of relaxing herbal teas.
The result is an album that feels like a mellow haze floating around your head. Some of my personal favorites from the album are “Dojo Rising” (which, incidentally, has a must-see music video), “Happy Birthday,” and the title track. What’s truly great about the latter also closing out the album is that it ends with several minutes of the echoing sounds of a dripping cave. It’s like a bookend for an album that provides a full-on engulfment of sound.
