ARE GRAMMY WINNERS OLDER NOW THAN THEY WERE 20 YEARS AGO? 50 YEARS AGO?

FRANK

We don’t remember where the inquiry originally came from, but we’ve been contemplating average pop star age for some time, and so we finally buckled down and crunched the numbers. A few hours later, even after our extensive data dive (all listed below), we’re not sure we have sufficient answers. That said, it more or less appears our popsters are getting younger, but if you go by averages, Tony Bennett and the other contemporary “traditional” pop vocalists kind of screw things up.

Nevertheless, we’re sure there are countless bloggers and re-bloggers out there looking for pre-baked Grammy fodder to twist into click-bait. On that note, please use our research at your leisure, but beware of a few things. For one, the categories have changed some over the years, as electronica was still underground when the awards started in 1959. Also note that for this year, we listed ALL of the nominees, even though it’s obvious Macklemore will sweep the evening.

  1. Now let’s see an article about the meaning of age and what/why it matters. Some of you must have gone to Harvard. In the meantime, yawn, fucking motherfucker, yawn.
