BAD COP/BAD COP: “BOSS LADY”

MU_Track_BadCopBadCop

GENRE | ALL LADY PARTS-PUNK
LABEL | FAT WRECK CHORDS

This fast, four song EP from Fat Wreck Chords is LA-based Bad Cop/Bad Cop’s label debut after the blazing Sweet Brown Water caught fire last year.

And like any good pop-punk band ready to incite a pogo-riot, these ladies snarl about DIY ambitions and taking control. Bad Cop/Bad Cop take notes from prominent SoCal punk bands that have laid the path years before them with strong harmonies and a speedy beat. Similar to the grit of Joan Jett and battle cries of Kathleen Hanna, “Boss Lady” asserts a new group ready to wave the torch, but mostly to share the party. Listen up and you’ll be eager to loop back around for another upbeat serving.

Jennie Cotterill and Stacey Dee double duties on guitar and vocals for a rich sound, made even more powerful when bassist Linh Le chimes in. It’s a lush waterfall on opening track “My Life.” They do as they please throughout, and it works. The rad, menacing spider-boss on the front is even a painting by Cotterill. Let’s hope things keep flowing into a full album.
