Last night at the second night of Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble semifinals at TT The Bears, substitute wildcard band Yellabird — pinch hitting for Feints — opened the evening with a set of solid guitar-drum power-prog, followed by the ever-reliable Tigerman WOAH, who pummeled through a rough and tumble set of rowdy folk-punk. But I should mention that as much as I love the WOAH-dudes, they lose me every time they wade into Tom Waits territory. Next up, Goddamn Draculas — more on that later, and the evening closed with emo-ish alterna-pop Bald Guys Wearing Plaid, er, I mean, uh, Barricades.
Irritatingly enough the goddamn Goddamn Draculas took the second night. Which is a goddamn shame because they are not that goddamn good. The music is okay — if you’re into third-string punk with cock-rock overtones — but any grown-ass men that can’t come up with a better lyric than “Jenny’s on the rag” should have their microphones revoked. It was offensively half-assed. Ham-fisted, juvenile misogyny is not a good look, bro-hammers.
And maybe I’m being harsh, maybe a bit too critical, but I’m a goddamn critic and I gotta call it like I see it.
Or maybe I’m just hungover and projecting.
But hey, tune in next week for the finals when Goddamn Draculas square off against the ladies of Petty Morals, and a third TBD wildcard. I hope “Jennys rag” pissed of the rocker chicks as much as it pissed of me — then we’d see a Rumble for the record books.
