You don’t need a sophisticated network of real-time facial recognition technology to tell we’re excited for September’s edition of Boston Calling. The festival returns next month on Friday, September 5 for three days with an even bigger roster of acts ready to rock City Hall Plaza, and in the 23 days leading up to the big show, we’ll be priming you with a soundcheck. So listen up, stay tuned, and remember to smile for the cameras.
DAY/TIME: SAT 9.6 @ 3:05 PM
GENRE: Youthful Indie Pop
SONG TO SEE LIVE: When a musician becomes famous by age 16, damage is bound to follow. Sky Ferreira is a prime example. She’s toyed with boys (Oh, DIIV), a good amount of heroin, and way too much jail time, all of which adds a smear on her otherwise well-written songs. So when the hollow-eyed starlet launches into her hit “Everything Is Embarrassing” this fall, we’ll be smirking. We love you, Sky, but our hearts are too mean not to revel in the irony.
A BOSTON BLURB: Ferreira headlined TT The Bear’s back in 2012, but her set only took up a whopping 30 minutes. With two EPs slung over her shoulder and a whole lot of hype guiding the way, she stepped onstage to a sold-out crowd who were lucky enough to see firsthand that the hype wasn’t in vain. Her set proved age doesn’t always indicate talent, and Boston couldn’t stop talking about it afterwards.
