In the midst of the Occupy Boston Second Encampment, when the Boston Police Department arrive to remove protestors. Around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Pearl St. and Surface Rd.
I can not tell you how proud I am of the Veterans and all the People arrested on Tuesday. The movement has started and it shall continue. Please do not give up, I beg you.
Geez, I didn’t know I was in for a big cry watching this. These images immediately brought back sharp memories of being pushed around at events like this when I lived in Boston as a young (and not so young) adult. What the hell is up with the drastically different police procedures in different cities for this ongoing citizen protest—it seems that in NYC people have been treated mostly fairly, and then as usual its a big messy endeavor in Boston. ‘Shame’ those people said, and I say it too: SHAME ON YOU BOSTON POLICE FORCE. This isn’t Birmingham, the world has changed.
I live in a city now where the tradition of taking dissent to the streets goes back at least a few hundred years and its treated as a routine civics exercise—no violence, rarely arrests.
Stand strong. And we have not been treated “fairly” at Wall Street in New York. We have been beaten, arrested and just this past Friday six generators were confiscated by the police. We just won’t back down. The more they come at us the BIGGER we get. Keep going. Persevere. When you think it’s tough remember Dr. King, John Lewis of SNCC, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Frederic Douglas, Josh Fox, Tim de Christopher…. and everyone who has stood before you for you unflinchingly. We have a long and strong lineage. Our turn now. Our turn now.
Thank you, Lauren and digboston.com for being there.
