POLL GLANCING: EAST BOSTON

EASTIE PIC

POLLING PLACE: DONALD MCKAY SCHOOL – 122 COTTAGE STREET

WARD, PRECINCT: 1, 2
NEIGHBORHOOD: East Boston
TIME: 9am
SIGNAGE WINNER: “Vote No Casino”

WHAT WE SAW: Parents walking chubby kids to school; odd pair of men in a black Lincoln blasting reggaeton (didn’t seem to have any campaign affiliations); two little old ladies in flower dresses thick glasses and fluffy white hair working the polls.

WHAT WE DIDN’T SEE: I was expecting a high turnout of Latin-American voters, as I entered the lot I noticed that the vast majority of people there were old Italian Americans. I recognized them instantly (takes one to know one). They stood in large circles talking loudly at each other.
WTF?: Helicopter circling overhead. Perhaps outgoing Mayor Menino checking up on things, though we couldn’t confirm.
