Ann Driscoll is a busy woman. From graduating Berklee, and living and working in Brooklyn, to dividing time between playing and touring with friends and fronting her group Mrs. Danvers, she rarely gets a moment to herself. Even Mrs. Danvers is a challenge in and of itself since the four members are split between Boston and New York. Ann surmises:
“Having a band is a lot like having a relationship. And when you’re in a long distance relationship with a band you really have to go the extra mile.”
And if there’s any band that’s going the extra mile these days, it’s Mrs. Danvers.
The indie dance rock quartet formed in 2009 and quickly gained a devoted local following due to their invigorating live performances and their appealing sound that combines elements of new wave dance-ability and ‘60’s-style pop harmonics. Most recently, the group has been finishing up sessions in preparation to release their first proper full length.
“It’s really exciting to finish these songs after a long period of time and get them out there, so that’s what we’re really pumped about.”
Not only is their album exciting news for Danvers fans, but also acclaimed director Anders Birch has been filming a documentary about Driscoll and Mrs. Danvers since last October.
This Friday, the Danvers crew will play the studio at Webster Hall in New York City, and on Saturday, they’ll hit the road for Boston to play the Cantab Lounge with a slew of performers including the Lydia Fischer Band and Mitten, and intermittent sets by DJ Leah V. Aside from the guaranteed rockage, the show is presented by Merge, who sponsor Mrs. Danvers and will be putting on a fashion show during the performance. Ann ensures that “each act on the bill is going to bring a substantial following” and that the event will be one not to miss. So, if you’re a fan of great music, good times, and models, I suggest you go this Saturday because who knows when you’ll get to see Mrs. Danvers again? Like I said before, Ms. Driscoll is a very busy woman.
Mrs. Danvers is playing on Saturday, July 23rd, at 9pm with the Lydia Fischer Band, Mitten, and DJ Leah V @ Cantab Lounge: 738 Mass. Ave., Central Sq., Cambridge. 617.354.2685. 21+ cantab-lounge.com.
