Sexy songstress Niki Luparelli has a thing for Davids—namely of the Foley (Kids in the Hall), Jones (of the Monkees) and Bowie (of the David Fucking Bowie) varieties.

“So far, I’ve met Davey Jones. Dave Foley retweeted me, which made my day. Now all that’s left is David Bowie!”

The latter listed David is the obvious inspiration behind Oh! You Pretty Little Things, the burlesque cabaret tribute show Luparelli’s concoted in dance-magic-danceable fashion. Luparelli, whose earned her keep singing with her band, the Gold Diggers, performed a cover set of the be-glammed ones biggest hits in honor of his 64th birthday back in January.

“The Daily Pravda performed and Tad McKitterick of Sidewalk Driver joined us,” she recalls.

“I was just so amazed at the turnout, and the love for Bowie that I didn’t really know was there. I’ve been putting on shows for a long time, and just the support for the Bowie show was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.”

By the end of the show I thought people were gonna jump onstage. I was fuckin’ gonna stage dive, it was nuts. All these fans came out of the woodwork. After that show I decided that I was going to do it every six months at different venues until Bowie either comes out of retirement or sues me.”

What can the Bowie die-hards and the burlesque virgins expect this time around? “Definitely ‘Life on Mars,’ ‘All the Young Dudes’ … ‘Let’s Dance,’ ‘Modern Love’ … we’re gonna be doing a dance to ‘Dance Magic Dance’ from Labyrinth and I have Mary Widow doing a dance to that. She’s got the fake baby that she’s throwing in the air and she’s got like feather pasties. It’s incredible. I want it to sound, you know, as close to Bowie …

“It kind of sucks that he won’t be singing it, but it’s definitely close.”
