Ho-hum, another meta-referential play-within-a-play commenting on the nature of theater. *extended yawn which will in no way be made foolish by a subsequent revelation* Wait, what’s this? Sarah Ruhl’s Passion Play (opening tonight at the Davis Square Theatre) uses the historical tradition of “passion plays” depicting Christ on the cross to examine religion in Elizabethan England, Nazi Germany and post-Vietnam America, respectively? Didn’t see that one coming directly after our five-minute yawn session. Anything else we should—BUH-WHUH?! He dies up there? And y’all are cool with that?
