Punk came about, in part, from the desire to destroy assumptions about what music “should” sound like—to “smash the state,” if you will. Only that “state” was “the state of popular music.” And it’s completely opposite to that spirit that we discuss the history of long-time punk Dan Vapid and his Cheats in advance of their set at Great Scott.
Seriously, guy started his career with a four-year stint in the Chicago outfit Generation Waste that resulted in an album which was never released. How punk is that?
Moxxxy-badd punk, right? Right? That’s the correct punker slang?

Clancy, I’m not sure what the hell you’re talking about here … but it made me listen to Dan’s new band. So BOOM, that’s journalism working!
