On August 1st, Magic Man opened up for St. Lucia and Charli XCX at Brighton Music Hall and accidentally stole the show with a kickass live performance. Good thing the Boston-based electro-pop, indie group can’t seem to stay away from Allston and will be headlining at Great Scott this Monday night, with Milkman’s Union and Old Abram Brown opening.
Magic Man is made up of members Alex Caplow and Sam Lee (who wrote all the songs), as well as Will Radin and Daniel Radin on the bass and drums. Their fantastic debut album, Real Life Color (available for a free download), underwent an adventurous journey on the road to being released.
The songs were reportedly written across different locations in France, including a circus festival and a chateau (YOLO), and then recorded and edited mostly by transmitting the tracks back and forth between band members, who rarely seemed to be in the same place at once.
The outcome? A particularly delicious blend of dreamy synthpop, with songs made for quiet nights on porches, as well as plenty of tracks to jam, jam, jam all night to. Not bad, guys!
