Remember when Jay-Z “retired” in 2003, and then in 2006 he came back with Kingdom Come, and was pretty much the best rapper alive? Now, he’s married to Goddess Beyonce, father to Messiah Blue Ivy, and having dinner with the POTUS.

The expression, “Thy Kingdom come,” as an ode to heaven (or whatever’s next) has a mighty, elegant, ring to it, evoking realms of beauty, color, and infinite sunlight in places we can only hope to visit. Take this concept and bring it down to the city streets, and you’ve got Enamel Kingdom (aka Ryan Lombardi), whose exhibition, Kingdom Come, is on view at Lot F Gallery through October.

Lombardi’s gorgeously vibrant and saturated paintings of animals have come to life on walls and reclaimed objects (like, wood, metal, and fiberglass) throughout the Northeast, with exhibitions in Providence, New York, Montreal, and, of course, Boston.

This week's Dig cover by EnamelKingdom aka Ryan Lombardi

According to Lot F curator James Wormser, Enamel Kingdom’s latest collection of paintings “reflects a new level of technique and polished craft, while his exploration in sign painting, script, and lettering has transformed his attention to detail into a seemingly effortless contrast of power and grace.” Hyper-flat, tribal monsters terrorize large panels of wood, with enamel techniques that would impress Takashi Murakami. Lot F’s Kingdom Come reception will feature a DJ set by “Make It New” resident and Boston’s reigning king of House, Alan Manzi.
