DEFEND YOURSELF! JIMMY TINGLE

DY_1250JimmyTingle

Long-time Cantabrigian comedian Jimmy Tingle is as charismatic and compelling as he is talented. His holiday shows are an insight into his love of Christmas.

WHAT’S THE BEST THING YOU EVER GOT FOR CHRISTMAS?

I was in detox in 1988, till I got sober when I got out. That was a nice gift. I quit drinking and that started in that rehab right in the Cambridge City Hospital. That was cool.

AS A KID? NOT THAT GETTING SOBER ISN’T A GOOD GIFT …

I was a macho kid. I got a Defender Dan machine gun. It was awesome, it was belt fed. Another great gift was going on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. It was right around Christmas. Johnny helped a lot of people, broke a lot of acts.

WORST PRESENT?

Batteries for an electronic device that I don’t own.

HOW DO YOU IMPRESS A GIRL FOR THE HOLIDAYS?

Take her out caroling. That’s always a good move.

JUST THE TWO OF US CAROL, OR …?

A group of people. You don’t want it to be just you and her singing on a street corner.

WHAT’S THE NEXT STEP? HOW SHOULD I SET UP MY PLACE?

Got to have mistletoe. Hang it in every room to increase your chances.
