JIFFY WILD: CHELSEA HANDLER’S WILD THANG!

Jiffy Wild - DigBoston

If your trailer home’s television is connected to basic cable – then you’re probably familiar with Chelsea Handler. You know, the host of Chelsea Lately who enjoys boozing, fornicating, and beefing with creeps like Nick Cannon and Joan Rivers.

Homegirl is often seen giggling and stuff with her besties Jennifer Aniston, Jenny McCarthy, and Reese Witherspoon – but little does the world know that her true best friend is up-and-coming comic, Jiffy Wild.

“Chelsea hasn’t seen me do stand-up. She knows I’m doing it but doesn’t ask me about it,” says Wild.

No, but seriously, they’re best friends.

Wild—who has been featured in In Touch Weekly and has his own tag on Tumblr (yeah, he’s a bigger deal than you)—is a writer for Chelsea Lately. And is a frequent round table commentator on the show.

“One day Chelsea texted me asking if I wanted to be on the round table. I gave her some ambiguous answer because I wasn’t really sure. Then, like, two weeks later the booker came up to me and was like, ‘Uh, so, Chelsea booked you. You’re on the round table in two weeks.’”

Prior to Lately, Wild was working at E!—aka Kris Jenner’s ATM—where he built very secure sets at red carpet events for fancy people to pose and turn and stuff.

“Yeah I was at E!, and one day my boss was like, ‘Hey, there’s this new show called Chelsea Lately, it’s only going to be going on for, like, eight weeks and they need an art guy. Would you be interested?’” Says Wild about his start at Lately. “I just really wanted to get out of the E! building and take a break from all the shit for two weeks so I was like, ‘Yeah, sure.’”

If pop culture isn’t your thang – shut up, you def have a sassy aunt who has informed you that Lately surpassed its original eight week run. Like, duh.

After Handler bitch-slapped his ass onto the round table – Wild discovered that he kind of liked it.

Yes, both the bitch slap and the round table.

“After doing the round table, I met with Chelsea and said that I wanted to be in the writing department. So, like, two weeks later, I was the new assistant writer. And last November I was promoted to writer,” says Wild.

His new digs are sexy. His officemate is round table regular and bestselling author, Sarah Colonna – whose book, Life As I Blow It: Tales of Love, Life & Sex . . . Not Necessarily in That Order, is currently perched at number 5 on the New York Times Best Seller list.

“That’s right, gurl,” says Colonna in the background.

The show has undeniably impacted comedy and has thrust silly humans—Whitney Cummings, Jo Koy, Josh Wolf, Loni Love, Jen Kirkman, Heather McDonald, Ross Matthews and Colonna—into some pretty heavy limelight. And now it’s Wild’s turn…

“I ventured into the stand-up world a few months ago,” says Wild. “I’ve realized that stand-up isn’t just something that you can start and automatically be great at. It’s a club that you really have to earn you way into. I started by doing a lot of open mics.”

Um, ps – open mics are fucking scary. Normally the rooms are filled with wannabe comics who are ready to hate on you worse than Mo’Nique hated on Precious.

“Sometimes I’d do an open mic and I’d see someone point and be like, ‘Oh he’s from Chelsea Lately.’ So then I’d start to think that they want me to not be good. But then again, if I recognized someone from a show, I could see myself doing that too.”

Haters in da club can sit the fuck down now, because Wild is doing pretty well – he recently opened for Wolf in Las Vegas and opened for Colonna over the weekend at the Hollywood Improv.

Catch Jiffy Wild on Chelsea Lately, weeknights on E! at 11pm and on After Lately, Sunday nights on E! at 11pm.
