For proof that this writer, sketch comic, and stand-up is secretly America’s most subversive humorist, look no farther than his 1999 return to Saturday Night Live as host. Less than a year after being fired from the show for his supposed lack of funny, the man returned to reprise his classic Burt Reynolds impersonation, deliver a monologue where he flat-out says SNL has gotten crappier. Need some aspirin and aloe vera, SNL? ‘Cause that’s a sick burn. Tonight: dated jokes about Winona Ryder because he fucking can.
