DJ SET OF THE WEEK: NU LIFE

The era of queer-only clubs might be fading into the new era of acceptance, but it’s also the result of forward-thinking DJs like D’Hana and Rizzla, who released a new mix to promote their Nu Life parties, which go down every Tuesday night at the Zuzu club (though it’s bound to outgrow that place this year).

Here they showcase their all-encompassing style. Dancehall, which has a bad rep in the queer community, is brought in with open arms. They own the pop of a voice like Keisha Cole but also give it up to classic queer anthems from Fannypack. There’s also Robyn (playing the House of Blues Friday February 2nd!) , Cecile and Rizzla’s own reedits and refixes.

The result is as sexy as it is powerful. A “show of strength” would be an understatement. This is power house.
