The Future Everybody is not only an extremely talented local band that seems to wreak havoc wherever they turn up, but one with an unprecedented sense of humor. Here, frontman Nate Rogers flexes his comedic muscles without hurting himself too much.
How has TFE been spending their time as of late?
Finishing our EP, replacing our drummer, growing beards and shaving them off, tearing down MySpace pages and fighting about handclaps. [Guitarist] Morgan [Terrinoni] hates handclaps.
What other Boston bands do you resonate with?
If by “resonate” you mean “drinking the beer that the other band brought to the rehearsal space,” I’d have to go with The Rationales.
Can you think of a time where you guys played a show where the audience wasn’t feeling you too much?
That would be a weird thing to advertise in a widely read alt-weekly, no? I’m just going to say that the release of the Natalie Portman/Ashton Kutcher movie No Strings Attached just ahead of our song, “Strings”—whose chorus is “no strings attached”—is very suspect.
Have you guys been working on any new material?
Totally. The first batch of stuff was mostly “Nate songs” that the rest of the band put the wallpaper on, but we’ve been steadily and doggedly shifting into a more collaborative thing.
How have the songs changed?
Now everyone else is writing and I’m just throwing words and melodies on top, which is a fun change for me. I’d say the overarching theme straddles the line between “indie pop that goes in some unexpected directions” and “man’s struggle against societal pressure.”
