Le Butcherettes relocated from Mexico to Los Angeles and recorded this passionately powerful record. This album will blow your pants off. It seeps up your ankles and clenches you entirely. It’s laden with noisy, abrasive beats and seductive, simple hooks. The band has the potency of 20 runaways gripping switchblades. Lead singerTeri Gender Bender, lead singer, prowls and growls through her lyrics with a theatrical stamina. On tracks like “I’m Getting Sick of You,” she’ll lure you in with soft literary chit-chat, but her pent-up irritation quickly catches up and lets it all out at you.

They’re no strangers to the soft/loud game in their songmaking, either. Their timing is spot-on, making the album rich and dynamic. Deep, creeping bass lines threaten from the background of “Tainted in Sin” while others (“Dress Off”) assault with quickening snares. Le Butcherettes balance an economy of sound with a bloodbath of noise.
