We can assure you that we wouldn’t be sending you to Connecticut unless it was for a very, very good reason, and the 16th annual celebration of Gathering of the Vibes is totally worth passing all those skeezy billboards on 91, even if you do hit a wall of traffic. Previous Vibes alumni include the Allman Brothers, James Brown, George Clinton, and the Black Crowes. This year, the rock of their predecessors will carry on through the talents of the Avett Brothers, Mates of State, Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9), Joe Pug, and Boston’s own Ryan Montbleau band. Gathering of the Vibes is for those whose answer to the question “What music do you listen to?” is “EVERTHING”—the tuneage runs the gamut from straight-up psych rock to Americana to pop, with plenty of obscure bands in between sets to act as a sonic palate cleanser.
