REPORTING LIVE: BOUNCING SOULS AT THE MIDDLE EAST – NIGHT THREE + FOUR

NightFour_web

Well folks, our time with the Bouncing Souls has come to an end. For four nights they were a part of our community sharing 99 songs from their 8 album discography. I got into a rhythm catching the #1 to The MidEast, watching local pin-up, ShellsBells, introduce each album and sipping cold ‘Gansetts all night. The Souls filled that club with camaraderie and plenty of óle. Their stay was nothing short of badass:

My Mom would call and say, “So this is Bouncing Souls week, isn’t it?” How amazing is it to be able to refer to a week like that? I’ve grown up on three square meals a day of this music, so this was a great chapter in the book of Smurry.

A friend asked if I would be burned out by night four of Jersey punk. Fool.

Every night had wall-to-wall energy, but the final night exploded with folks hopping on stage to sing harmonies alongside Pete, Bryan and Greg. The band eagerly shared material from the newest album,“Ghosts on the Boardwalk” with legions of fans belting out the choruses. Fellow musicians joined them to play trumpet, harmonica, accordian and keyboard, giving every track the full effect. Sharing their water, stage and leaving everyone ridiculously upbeat is just how the Souls do it. They perform with unbridled enthusiasm that catches on quickly.

After every chord chimed out from their albums, the audience was given an unexpected treat: six additional oddity tracks. The four nights were an epic gift that make me elated to live in Boston and not somewhere in Nebraska. Thanks for visiting, gents.
