Influential producer and synth-master RJD2 teams up with Philadelphia-based soul singer Aaron Livingston for this dreamy, reflective trip down pop music memory lane. Whereas some tracks give off a Mark Ronson and Daniel Merriweather quality, we take off with lead single “Going and Going. And Going.” Its hard hip-hop groove and distorted melody give way to a bridge that would fit perfectly on Dark Side of the Moon. That sets the tone for the rest of the songs, with ‘60s organ and R&B, ‘70s guitar, ‘80s synths and ‘90s hip-hop soul.

Icebird -- Going And Going. And Going by PhillyNotes

Aside from stunning production throughout, RJD2 shines brightest at his glitchy, electronic best.

Though an inventive and shape-shifting collection, Lullaby proves that, despite an acute ability to harvest the best of their influences, it doesn’t necessarily add up to an influential record.
