IN THE MIX: FALKO BROCKSIEPER

There’s an air following the European DJ milieu that evokes a dark and sexy vibe; the same appeal that accompanies a smoky club scene where a Marion Cotillard type locks eyes with some mysterious male (Gael Garcia Bernal). In the moments following, there are a series of coy looks, a definite game of cat and mouse, followed by a slow motion walk towards to middle of the dance floor, all lights on them. The soundtrack? German DJ and producer, Falko Brocksieper.

For those of you techno-house junkies, Brocksieper is on the likes of Carl Craig, and a definite post-90′s raver. He’s the epitome of a candy kid who grew up and deepened his taste, now vibing with a darker sound, but still channeling a high, pure energy. Keeping it clean yet edgy, Brocksieper shares his expansive musical taste and collection and thus exemplifies that a DJ is only as strong as his play-list. To someone who has not yet found the deeper side of house or techno there can be a white-washed repetition in the beat. However, artists such as Brocksieper, much like a painter, evoke a dynamically textured story comprised of pops, explosions, builds and slight nuances of sound all atop a minimal canvas.

Aside from his talent in musical selection and composition, Falko has started two record labels: Sub Static with 76 releases and Karloff Records with 27 releases, both of which are held in high regard in the techno realm.
