The “worthy of a Tarantino soundtrack” distinction isn’t one I throw around lightly.
From Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell” to Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang,” these alterna-classics—those that our parents recognize but weren’t necessarily topping the charts back in their day—are unexpected anchors to moments in Tarantino’s flicks that have us bolting to Google to figure out who the hell sang that song.
Arrow from the Heartless Bastards has this same appeal, except instead of pulling shoulda-beens from the archives we’re dealt a stack of reverb-ridden beauties that appeal to the most plugged-in and on-trend listener. Cases in point: “Down In The Canyon”; “Arrow and the Beast.” Arrow indicates that this band is set for climax-worthy moments of their own—and they’re definitely not just the background noise.
