Todd Edwards is a DJ and a producer but, in many ways, he’s more like a preacher—the DJ booth as his pulpit and the dance floor his church.

Somewhat dormant the last few years, production-wise, his newest music is somewhat of a departure from his early days as the pioneer of the mostly-UK genre known as “Garage” (pronounced GARE-age). Title track “Shall Go” has him shouting to the congregation to keep the energy up to a serious beat. Third cut “This Generation” is a straight-up anthem, complete with ringing bells, rattling snare drum patterns and a call to action: “This generation!” a childlike voice yells, “Rules the nation!” It’s powerful stuff. “Echo of the Past” is the tongue-in-cheek title to the closing song.

Older producers like Edwards are perfect examples of how electronic music can sound fresh even with a veteran at the helm. Indeed, because a veteran is at the helm.
