An off-stage video performance doesn’t get more authentic and folk-pop warm than Brothers McCann singing, playing guitar and drinking some beers at the neighborhood bar.
In collaboration with the Big Old Big One (BOBO) video music blog, the New England based band plays “St. Peter” in the cozy bar setting at Toad, one of Cambridge’s bastions of live music.
Vocalist Mike McCann describes “St. Peter” as “a hopeful sinner’s anthem.” On first listen, the soulful tune strikes a sense of familiarity and good ol’ roots flavor that invites a sing along, which brothers Mike and Patrick McCann as well as Erik White highly encourage.
“It is a loud, proud admission of our flaws and a song that people connect to. We love ending our evenings with it as the crowd tends to sing along and that adds such life to the song,” said Mike McCann.
In the video, Erik White plays lead guitar and Patrick McCann provides vocals. The fourth person featured in the video is creator of BOBO Eran Shaysh, who demonstrates his percussion skills with snaps, while also singing. Shaysh used to be the drummer in Brothers McCann.
“Collaborating with Eran Shaysh came quite easy for us. He is an extraordinary talent and played drums with us for years. His energy, enthusiasm for his craft is second to none. Big Old Big One is his creation and we are so proud of how he has used his talents to share the local and national music scene beyond this little city,” said Mike.
From grand university halls to outdoor settings, BOBO brings musicians to real life locations off the stage, and the Toad was certainly a fitting spot for Brothers McCann. “Enjoying some craft beers in the corner of one of our favorite bars, singing at the top of our lungs was a treat,” said Mike.
In May, catch Brothers McCann at the Toad every Tuesday night for their residency from 8-9:30 p.m. Who could say no to FREE live music?
