Supersillyus, but super serious about what he does.
The canvas of innovation has been primed with recent bursts of local creativity, leaving everyone anxiously awaiting the next brush strokes. Luckily, the wait is over with an impending masterpiece on tap from one of Allston’s favorite mind-bending producers: Supersillyus.
“And all I’m trying to say is a peacock without its feathers ain’t nothing but a turkey. I ain’t no turkey.”
Despite having his current residence in Allston and his native roots in Los Angeles, there’s no denying the extraterrestrial traces that emanate from Supersillyus (Rob Uslan)’s work as an artist and musician. As a relatively new emerging member of the local community, Rob seems to operate on a similar wavelength as some of the current pioneers of the psychedelic front including: Simon Posford (Shpongle), OTT, PhuturePrimitive and Bird of Prey, some of whom he’s already shared the stage with. His departure from the rest coincides (as his moniker suggests) with a series of performance rituals including a rush through the audience with his bongos, a saxaboom solo and, of course, the presence of his right-hand man, Bilkwon the Chef, serving up fresh pancakes to audience members.
Supersillyus’s second album release, Tesselations, was touched in a somewhat haunted symphonic manner that was not at all silly, but instead, rather poignant. The album’s namesake track maintains an eastern influence while transitioning between a relevant moment and providing a portal to another realm. This track is laden with beautiful soundscapes, eyebrow raising samples, soulful vocals, moments that make you want to run and hide and moments that make you want to worship the rising sun. Choose your moment this evening, when Supersillyus transforms Magic Room. And no matter what, choose it wisely.
