We love the whimsical, twee acting chops of this artist as much as any culture junkie. Be it a low-key entry with Paul Dano in indie film Gigantic or a big-screen role as the figuratively elfin romantic interest to Will Ferrell’s literally elfin, raised-by-elves guy in Elf, this “manic pixie dream guy” has been a precocious powerhouse for the film industry. And, believe it or not, he’s also a musician, playing solo or with the other half of indie-folk duo She & Him, Zooey De—wait. What? Really?

Then what the hell did we watch?
