BORDERLANDS: FRANK OCEAN’S “PYRAMIDS”

Frank Ocean returns with cinematic new single “Pyramids” and plans for July LP.

Odd Future’s in-house R&B crooner Frank Ocean has revealed plans to release his first commercial album Channel Orange on July 17th via Def Jam, a follow-up to last year’s infectious debut mixtape nostaligia, ULTRA. The past year has bore witness to the rise of many “PBR&B” acts in the indiesphere (i.e. The Weeknd), and Ocean has emerged as both a fan and critical favorite, popular throughout blogs and the radio, despite reported fall-outs with his label.

The singer-songwriter followed the big LP announcement by releasing the new single “Pyramids” on his tumblr just hours later.

The track is a smoldering sultry epic spanning almost ten minutes in length and finds Ocean quietly worshipping the working woman.

“She’s working at the Pyramids tonight,” he sings of his “Cleopatra,” cleverly heightening his presumable relationship with a stripper to near cinematic form. The track morphs throughout it’s lengthy nine minutes, beginning with a slow-build opening that blossoms into a thumping dance track before fizzling into a bedroom burner.

If you’re counting, that’s track two on our summer sex playlist.
