Mogwai are one of “those” bands. You know, senior year, a friend who’s “into” music slips you a mix CD. “Dude—no vocals.” Whuh? “It’s ‘instrumental.’” Buh-whuh? “They’re named after the furries in Gremlins.” Bu—well, obviously. “They’re at the House of Blues tonight.” Uh, neat! “Love that movie. Did I tell you about the time—” Great, thanks, Vision of the Past. Point is, despite being many a youngling’s gateway from “Zep” to greener musical pastures, the Glaswegian post-rockers are also proof that one of “those” bands can be a “good” band, too. (The point is also that Gremlins “friggin’ rules dude.”)
