GENRE | POSTROCK/GRUNGE LOVECHILD
VERDICT | MUSIC I’D GET MURDERED TO
LABEL | DEAD OCEANS
RELEASE | 6.26.12
Heavy on the distortion with vocals Edgar Allen Poe would have probably enjoyed, A Place to Bury Strangers’ latest sounds like a scene from a horror film where the bad guy is chasing his to-be victim through an abandoned junkyard. And that’s pretty much what they’re going for. The video for their new single, “You Are The One” is throbbing with raunchy violence
and supports my initial suspicions that the front man might possibly be of vampire descent.
The album doesn’t vary much from song to song, but does incorporate some subtly unique tracks, such as the quieter, more ambient “Dissolved”. Though lighter than the rest, the song maintains its dark, distorted, metallic sounding roots, which are the basis for the album overall.
Worship stands up to APTBS’ title of being the “loudest band in New York City” (according to their fans). Technically you’re in control of the volume,
but if you can’t take the noise, don’t bother with this one.
