On his solo debut, Dan Le Sac, of British hip hop duo dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip, utilizes an astonishingly varied palette for what is as much a showcase of other artists’ talents as it is his own. Ever the gentleman, he shifts deftly in deference to his collaborators’ voices,

and the results can be ever cutting.

He offers up big, ominous beats for B Dolan’s aggressive rhymes in “Caretaker” and hits with heavy severity on the metal-tinged “Memorial” featuring singer/songwriter Emmy The Great.

The opening track, “Long Night Of Life,” is a testament to producer Dan Le Sac’s ability to build incandescent, mesmerizing pieces of electronic pop.

The rest of the album is proof of his darker side. The effervescent “Play Along,” with Sarah Williams White, is the closest he comes to hook-driven dance pop, but for the most part Space shuns catchiness, relying on the sheer virtuosity of its many participants to keep you on your toes.
