Take your inner-10-year-old’s building excitement when approaching the final level of your latest GameBoy cartridge and pack that energy into some bombastic music created from the handheld gaming console itself and you have an idea what Br1ght Pr1mate bring to the table.
Chiptune is a genre built around sampling 8-bit video game sounds and mashing them with blazing synthesizers and dance beats.
With “Night Animals,” Br1ght Pr1mate certainly proves they have their calculating fingers on the steady pulse of the scene.
While the title track feels a bit spare, things kick of with “SOURCE CODE.” The dark and blazing number shows off what Br1ght Pr1mate do best: pairing loud computer dance music with surprisingly versatile female vocals. Mid-album, “Hibernate” and “Hypnotized” brighten up the mood for a bit, before plunging into the album’s second half of pure instrumentals. Hopefully, Br1ght Pr1mate will continue to tackle this interesting genre head-on.

so awesome to see chiptunes in the dig!! boston 8-bit have been putting on some solid shows for a few years now and it seems bright primate is seriously starting to blow up. ive heard them on the radio a few times now, which is crazy because i saw them play down in a tiny coffee shop in cape cod like two years ago, haha. oh how the times have changed! love it!
