HAPPY BIRTHDAY YA STONE FOXES!
When it comes to the ongoing question of whether Boston is lame or not, I am the first person to jump to my city’s defense. We may follow archaic booze laws, have iffy public transportation and turn street art into an act of terror, but I am a firm believer that you get back what you put in and will see only what you are looking for. Thankfully I’m looking for beauty, ingenuity and innovative artistic expression, which has made Boston (and Cambridge!) a mecca of greatness for me.
Up-and-coming artist collective and label JASS is a paradigm of forces who have been integral to keeping Boston relevant, exciting and evolutionary for me this year. As a group comprised of more than ten DJs, producers and visual artists, JASS has been making waves across the country for their forward-thinking, fresh take on electronic music. The vibe is always soulful, thought-provoking and pure, which is indicative of the level of artistry that drives this group forward.

Tonight they celebrate their one-year (fellow Virgos!) at Phoenix Landing with Michigan-bred and New York-based drummer/producer, Shigeto. His recent mix for Andrew Meza’s BTS Radio showcases his impeccable track selection, Motown and Jazz roots and attention to seamless production and detail. It’s easy listening with evocative bursts of bass atop a timeless foundation, and it includes a track from JASS’s own Time Wharp. The bottom line is this: quit complaining about what’s wrong and look for the many things that are right. And get to know the beat-makers behind JASS, because I can assure you, they are only going up, up, up – but never away.
