GENRE | Synth-Pop-Metal-Fusion
VERDICT | Paramore-esque
LABEL | Self-Released
RELEASE | 8.31.12
Nothing says “girl power” louder than a badass female vocalist.
Oilhead makes that statement and more on their highly energetic and extremely catchy new EP, Make Your Move. They clearly draw from across the musical spectrum, and could be described as a hybrid of heavy guitar-laced dance-y electronica with punk-y lady vocals—think Paramore on steroids.
I couldn’t stop the teeny-bopping, sixteen-year-old girl inside of me from rocking out to “I’m Crazy, Deal With It,” the anthemic third track, while “C.A.T.S.” is vocalist Brittney Rose’s narration of the break-up-and-make-up dance we all know and loathe/love, with a fast beat that captures the intensity of adolescent relationships.
And yet, even my 21-year-old self could sing along to Make Your Move alone in my bedroom after a night of heavy drinking.
