When it comes to cataloging the rare and wonderful specimens of EDM raised in and/or swinging through our neck of the sonic woods, the beat professors behind these weekly dance nights have done more than enough to earn metaphorical tenure. Tonight, researchers present their rediscovery of “the funk” with this beat-weaving producer-designer-DJ out of Detroit. And hey, it turns out funk didn’t disappear, it just traveled far enough into the future to be the herald of its own return. Duh. Typical funk move, really. Funk’s all about that “simplest solution is best” stuff.
