TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB: BEACON

CD_TwoDoorCineman

GENRE | INDIE DANCE ROCK THAT ROCKS
VERDICT | JUST ADD COMFORTABLE SHOES
LABEL | GLASSNOTE RECORDS
RELEASE | 9.3.12

This Irish trio didn’t depart too far from their 2010 release, Tourist History, as their sophomore album Beacon maintains the same artistic depth and infectious melodies. This latest attempt showcases the band’s wide range with energetic beats on powerhouse tunes like “Someday,” as well as a fuller, richer sound on its dreamy counterpart “Spring.”

While it’s beyond danceable, it’s also thought-provoking and emotional with somber, slow-burning drumbeats in “The World Is Watching” and regret-filled, moody lyrics throughout.

The album falls short only in that it takes a few tracks before Beacon comes alive. “Handshake” never totally reaches its potential. Still, with their authenticity and inability to keep listeners sitting still, TDCC sets the bar for indie-pop with this one.
