SMALL WORKS

AE_1249SmallLoremIpsum

The holiday season is rife with a handful of small-works exhibitions that encourage finding the right piece for that special someone. The Small Works exhibition opening at Lorem Ipsum Books, curated by artist Brian Hart, will feature over 70 small (no bigger than 18 by 18) and affordable (no higher than $200) paintings, photographs, prints and drawings by 30 artists, all ready to be wrapped and stowed under the tree. The exhibition’s opening coincides with “Shop Inman by Moonlight,” which features live caroling, a scavenger hunt and photos with Santa, and the Inman Square businesses will stay open until midnight.

“There’s a lack of galleries dedicated to promoting young artists,” explains Hart, “but that doesn’t mean artists aren’t out there toiling away. Businesses like Lorem Ipsum that show artwork have a much greater freedom with who and what they show, allowing more opportunities for undiscovered talent. I hope this encourages more business to follow their example.”

“Although we’ve presented visual art in the bookstore since July,” says Ipsum’s Peter Loftus, “this is our first time hosting the Small Works show. We hope to continue it annually, providing a platform for artists to present their work during the holiday season. With Inman Square being such a flourishing area for creative talent, the idea is to feature smaller, affordable works by artists willing to demonstrate that art can be enjoyed and collected by everyone.”

Small Works features artwork by Ashley Corbin-Teich, Autumn Ahn, Corey Oberlander, Mary Hart, Michelle Kim, Walter Sickert, Mike Dacey and many more, including the Dig‘s own Scott Murry.
